Moving on to my forest & exploring the Terrains

Time to bash on with my final environment; Terra-Feuille the forest area. I want this tribe to be the most natural and indigenous of the three I've created, so many of their attire will be made up of plants and things from the environment. The Angelo-Terrians might look much different than the Gaia-Terrians, but will tackle them one at a time! As always, because I'm not focusing on painting environment I've created a moodboard:

A moodboard of things inspire me, especially the Sylvari and the digimon Lillymon (soft spot from childhood!), as well as some fashion centered around flowers/leaves:

And this additional shoe which I couldn't fit in. I found it while researching feet wear for my desert people... :)

Next post will be sketching progress, and looking at existing tribes that live in different types of forestry.

Acconian's final design

Angelo-Acconians! I'm done with my desert people for now, and will probaby carry on the Gaia-Acconian man and Angelo-Acconian female to work on top of for my final artifacts.

Below is a comparision with the two faiths, and their silhouettes. Very happy with the feathers in sihouette to distinguish them:

Onwards to the forest of Terra-Feuille!

Final Design for Gaia-Acconian (2nd Iteration)

Many changes from the original posted last week, with my progress and reasons for this direction noted in the post before this one. Going to start tackling my forest people (Terra-Feuille) tomorrow.

Research and Iteration for Acconians

After today's meeting with Robin and team, it was affirmed I was falling into the 'stereotypes' pit. I'm struggling with this environment, simply cause there's already so many interpretations for desert/middle eastern designs, I need to portray; "practicality" "faith" "fashion" "environment" as well as all the critera set by the critical framework into the design.

So going back to research, this time focusing on how I can take something existing in the Middle East in a hot environment (specifically, Dubai (their fashion, their Islamic faith, their practicality and UAE rules are all very interesting and relevant)), sophistication incorporated into that design (suit/tie/formal wear, cleanliness, trim, etc),  to incorporate the Gaian faith into this, and above all to create a good character design.

Research:

Incorporating these new findings into designs:

Moving away from the indigo coloured clothes, to tie in the environment, I've decided the motif and colours of a fantasy desert flower, based off of a real one:

My interpretation:

The Gaia-Acconians will wear the flower like a symbol/sigil proudly, the colours too.

This experience is as expected an iterative process, and I hope to learn from my mistakes, document my progress and analysis the new design carefully so it meets the criteria posted above...This will all be documented in my Personal Project and Discussion chapters in my Dissertation.

Next post should show the new final Gaia-Acconian designs.

Angelo-Acconian sketches and Iterating Design

Sketchbook photos of my Angelo-Acconian design...:

But, I need to stop, take a step back and readdress these before I take them further. I'm falling into pits of stereotype. It might look cool, but it's not practical, and it's not a good link between design, faith, and the world surrounding them.

I'm going to go back, relook at Middle Eastern clothes, relook at materials of that sort of environment, and reiterate my original design. Next post will be an updated final design for my Acconians!

Final Design for Gaia-Acconian

Here is my final design for my Acconian's of the Gaia faith...

Now that this is mostly set, I'm going to start incorporating and changing things to suit the Angelolgy faith, then compare the two designs side by side in completion and in silhouette form.

Research and development sketches

After some focus on research, I found that I moved from "dessert environments and tribes" to looking at specifically Persian and Middle Eastern designs and I found things clicking together. I also failed to mention in my last post; of my 3 cultures, I think my desert culture will be the most civilized. My fantasy cultures incorporate real situations, and historically in the Middle East was one of the first civilizations of the World. Therefore, the Mermarians and Feuillian inhabitants will look more messy, natural and indigenous than the Acconians, whom I want standing tall, clean and dressed well.

I kept the blue theme of the Tuareg tribe in my final design, and decided to make the heel like this:

After looking at existing tribes, I looked at and compiled a mood board of some designs existing on video games to incorporated:

After I had a clear idea, I started a couple more sketches before I moved on to the final design:

I'm just touching up the final designs the now, and will post them next!
